Rémy Martin X Steaven Richard

The House of Rémy Martin and the Atelier Steaven Richard both bear the label Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant (EPV), a mark of recognition by the French State, rewarding French firms for their artisanal know-how and manufacturing excellence.

The label was one of the starting points which led to a partnership with metalwork expert Steaven Richard, in which the artist redesigned Rémy Martin’s emblematic centaur, creating a unique piece of work with vertical structures representing the House’s vines.

From this same inspiration, the limited-edition Rémy Martin XO x Steaven Richard was born, with the metalwork artist redesigning the iconic XO decanter and gift set.

With a constant focus on craftsmanship and development, Rémy Martin chose to join forces with artist Steaven Richard to showcase XO. For this project, Steaven immersed himself in the world of Remy Martin, evoking parallels between the firmly rooted traditional origins of cognac and those of artistic metalwork.

The two brands’ areas of expertise were the impetus behind the partnership between Rémy Martin and Steaven Richard, which resulted in the creation of a true work of art, the limited-edition XO that perfectly conveys the artist’s world.

This is more than just a partnership, it is the combination of two worlds steeped in ancestral know-how, and enhanced by the work of a team constantly searching for new ways to innovate.

Steaven Richard has been honing his professional skills for over ten years. He has always used his pioneering approach to enrich the trade’s heritage of traditional techniques. And that’s the ethos he put into practice when he created a now patented innovative metalwork technique: artistic lamination. Driven by his love for nature and the earth, and inspired by his creative encounters with other fields, Steaven is constantly experimenting to pave the way for new aesthetic adventures.

Rémy Martin is the only major cognac house to be founded by a winegrower, and is also the origin of the Alliance Fine Champagne Cognac region cooperative. The Alliance is the hallmark of a company that has withstood the passing of time, listening to the terroir and its people, and respecting the environment.

Rémy Martin also epitomizes l’exception française (the uniqueness of France). The family business, with deep roots in the vineyard and in history itself, is characterized by excellence, know-how and balance.

Steaven Richard is a metalwork craftsman. He opened his Paris-based Atelier in 2001, when he and his team decided to focus on experimenting and innovating. By combining traditional know-how with modern digital techniques, Steaven has revolutionized his practice and given rise to a series of aesthetic and architectural creations. Using specific techniques, he transforms materials, giving them a whole new dimension: he draws inspiration from the organic world with wood or vegetal effects, and decorates brass and iron with textile motifs. His expertise in chemical processes also allows him to create an infinite palette of textures, patterns and colors.

“I took inspiration from Rémy Martin’s centuries-old connection with the soil – its love for nature – and something happened. Something approaching a revelation: from the verticality of the vines that climb to the sky, this piece reaches out towards the stars”

Rémy Martin’s desire was to combine the world of cognac and its iconic decanter with the world of an extraordinary artist. For this partnership, artist Steaven Richard invented a way to infuse brass and create a unique golden patina featuring the Rémy Martin XO motif, giving the decanter new reflections and a new texture. The work that Steaven produced for XO in his atelier was designed to be a work of art in its own right.

“I took inspiration from Rémy Martin’s centuries-old connection with the soil – its love for nature – and something happened. Something approaching a revelation: from the verticality of the vines that climb to the sky, this piece reaches out towards the stars,” explains Steaven. Through a technique called anamorphosis, the artist reveals the iconic Rémy Martin centaur. The result is a unique piece, full of strength and mystery, at the crossroads between trompe l’oeil and traditional know-how.
